01 US 52 from River Rd to Houbolt Rd

The proposed US 52 capacity improvement project is intended to improve safety and operations. This alternative includes the widening of US 52 from River Rd to IL 59 from two lanes to four lanes, the construction of a raised curb and center median from River Rd to Houbolt Rd, and major intersection improvements at the US 52 intersection with IL 59, the I-55 interchange ramps and at Houbolt Rd. The project will accommodate connectivity of sidewalks and existing trails.

Funding & Schedule

This improvement is included in the Department’s current Proposed Highway Improvement Program. Current engineering efforts are targeted to enable a contract letting in the late years of the multiyear program contingent upon plan readiness, land acquisition and funding availability through future legislative appropriations.

Noise Study

The US 52 from River Road to Houbolt Road study evaluated traffic noise impacts and recommended that two potential noise walls be implemented within the project study limits. Property owners and tenants that would achieve a benefit from these walls have an opportunity to vote on whether the noise walls should be installed. When voting is completed, an update will be posted regarding whether the walls will be implemented.
